Look! Haint Blue in Savannah GA

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions for our trip to Savannah; we found some great stores that you'll be hearing about in the coming weeks. To get you in the spirit (and in keeping with the theme of the month), we give you our new favorite color- Haint Blue...

According to our tour guide, the color "ain't blue and ain't green" and is designed to keep away the haints (spirits). We saw the color all over the city and fell in love- the next time we paint, Haint Blue is definitely on our color palette!

I wish a little more info was put into this post because the story of haint blue is really interesting.

"haint blue" came to Savannah with African slaves. It was originally used on doorways and windows to represent water which they believed spirits could not pass over/ through.

The paint was a milk paint mixed from lime and indigo (a crop grown in the area that was commonly used to dye clothes). The lime in the paint does have insect repellent qualities. The color gained popularity and is commonly used on porch ceilings in the south.
