We adore the large stone sculptures and fountains that cover Rome. It's incredible that the huge pieces of stone are only small parts of what were once enormous monuments. The broken-off sculpture pieces would be great in a modern home or garden. Imagine having a large, foot, elbow or part of Caesar's face somewhere in your home or garden (if you have room!)...

The foot isn't exactly a roman artifact: from what I'm able to read on the inscription, it seems to be the foot of a pope, Urbano Vlll.

Yeah, I seriously have David's head in my garden right this second. I've had it there for about two years. It looks like he is buried under the garden but just his head is exposed and surrounded by foliage.

Nice... A few centuries ago they used to cut up larger paintings to sell as small portraits so they could make more profit out of one piece. Curators still have problems piecing together altar pieces scattered around the world.
Wouldn't it be easier to sell each toe separately? And that pedestal would make a great table... such a shame to keep that in one piece.

Really? That large area of "scraps" in the last picture is the Roman Forum...and it will not be showing up in my garden any time soon. Do you have any real examples of this (from say a home and not the Vatican Museum)?

The foot and the second picture are the remnants of the statue of emperor Constantine. Talk about massive - it was over 40ft tall - SEATED

This just makes me think what we need today is MORE massive statues.... i was thinking of the colossus of rhodes style statue some people are collecting signatures for here in seattle. it would depict steve allen straddling lake union and be taller than the space needle (the joke is he owns most of the land in that part of town)
