Look: Manhole Mats at The National Building Museum Shop

We have slinked about these before (and the similar Manhole Bathroom Mats) but we loved seeing them in person at the Building Museum.

Available in 7 different styles, these manhole cover rugs are the same size as the manholes they are modeled after. They're 24" diameter, nylon flocked, and durable indoor/outdoor floor mats.

We want DC but perhaps we will make do with Paris – just so we don’t play favorites.

I couldn't imagine putting anything in my home referencing a "manhole." It would open me up (no pun intended) to a whole lot of jokes from friends.

This is floor mat is just wrong.

No thanks.

oh come on! i think these are fun. i'm thinking about getting one as a gift for someone who lives in the rural mid-west where they don't see these too often and get a chuckle. when they come home they'll remember walking around the city with us.

I they're great. I wouldn't put one in my living room or anything, but gosh, a teen's room (esp a boy) would be perfect.

These are so funny! When my sister was studying in Rome a few years ago, my parents went to visit her. My dad had some kind of fascination with the much smaller size manholes and he attempted to remove it himself to take home with him. He was not successful and tried to get my sister to remove or have one removed for him. Needless to say he is still without his Italian manhole to this day. This would make a perfect gift for him.

I think these are fun - and could think of quite a few places to put one. Right in front of the kitchen sink would be great.

Maybe the naysayers just don't have any city pride.... I love New York, manhole covers and all!

The manhole covers in New Orleans are well-loved for their crescent design, reflecting the *real* nickname for New Orleans: Crescent City, a name given because the original city site (which roughly matches the current French Quarter) fits itself to a crescent-shaped section of the Mississippi River. I'd buy one if they reproduced these! They're much better-looking than those prosaic NYC ones.
