Hanging art from picture rails with ribbon has been suggested by many an Apartment Therapy reader, and after seeing the way the art is hung at The Hour in Alexandria, we would suggest it too. In fact, we want to install picture rails for the sole purpose!
The Hour, which sells modern and vintage cocktail ware, also displays trays and art from bow-tied and brightly colored ribbons &mdash and we now desperately want to mimic this in our apartment. The white ribbon against a pink wall with black molding is especially eye-catching.

All of these Alexandria, VA posts are making me so happy! It's such a charming, storied, diverse town. If you're thinking about moving to NOVA, seriously consider Alexandria.

Soo gorgeous. How is this done, and does anyone have a step-by-step? I could imagine my "1st grade level" knot tying skillz would not hold up.

You really want to hang these in the usual manner, and use the ribbon as decoration. I wouldn't hang anything I valued from knotted satin ribbon, for sure.

Those trays in the first picture are actually hung using plate holders - the ribbon isn't really doing the work. :)

Great point, greta. There's one way to hang non-traditional art with ribbon safely. - Lindsey
