I'm not into the shabby chic look - but overall this place is nice...

I really like that they used the vintage buffet as a vanity, it's just a shame that they painted over that beautiful mahogany - it would have still fit in quite well in the original wood tones with come cleaning up and a bit of polish.

This is fantastic.

I love the dark grout- visually appealing, and definitely practical. My most hated task is trying to keep the white grout on my bathroom floor white.

All of the texture and subtle pattern in this bathroom give it warmth and life (two things sorely lacking in most sterile, cold baths). This must be gorgeous in candlelight... with all of those metallic and mirrored surfaces twinkling!

why paint such gorgeous wood???

Did they expand? The before picture looks drastically smaller than the shot of the after from the master bedroom, which makes the space look huge. I would've liked there to have been a blurb detailing the renovation.

Also, I checked out her blog. Her kids bathe in this bathroom, too. I like that this is not a "precious" space just for mommy, but a loved and homey one.

Wow! I'm in the midst of a bathroom reno myself so it's nice to see this. Why must it be so difficult to find a shaker style vanity?

Positively, absolutely did the right thing by painting that clunker white. Bringing light to it and using it practically, as opposed to the school of thought that wood is some kind of sacred cow. Some pieces of furniture need all the help they can get, the wood be damned!!! In fact, it looks much better white, since the veneer was in poor condition and the entire piece was asking for rescue.

Moreover,

Since we all have one life to lead, why let your furnishings determine your happiness because some fool out there thinks it's written in stone that thou shall not tamper with ugly wood.

i think this just became the "inspiration room" for my upcoming master bath project. so clean and comfy looking

also i agree with click212 about the painted wood vanity... do what makes you happy, unless you can sell it for a major profit if you leave it unaltered. in that case, take the money!

Though I am not into the antique look, this looks great and shows great personality. I love the idea of painting the wood; once you lock yourself into not painting it, your design ideas sometimes come to a standstill. I bet these pieces were fun to shop for!
