My Great Outdoors: Kristi & Pam's Charm City Garden

2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gifName: Kristi & Pam
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Type of space: Deck & Backyard
How did you do it?: Our garden has been one of trial and error. Since we've been living here, we've slowly realized that our two dogs and the garden don't mix well together. They love to romp and play in the yard which means many of our plants and flowers just don't stand a chance. So instead of it being a constant battle, we've been gradually adding more plants to the container garden on the deck. To further simplify the garden's upkeep, we now mainly buy drought tolerant perennials. Of course, it's nowhere close to being finished. In the future we would like to add another stone pathway, paint the shed, and buy a solar water fountain.

Recommended store, site, product or resource? The deck furniture was from JC Penney and the pillows came from Target. The wood carving was brought back from Jamaica, the sundial was bought in Berkeley, California and the birdcage came from the Antique Mall in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Most of our plants have come from local garden centers or farmer's markets, but we have also acquired many from our grandparent's and mother's gardens. We have also gotten many ideas from them too, as well as our brother who lives in Northern California. Better Homes and Gardens seasonal issues and Cottage Living (currently out of publication) are our favorite magazines for inspiration.
