My Great Outdoors: Mo'Bland's Philly Patio

6-10-philly-patio.jpg
2009greatoutdoorsbadge.gifName: Heather & Mike Mo'Bland
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Type of space: Patio
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: With all the concrete and debris outside of our home, Heather just likes to keep it clean, green and colorful out back. One big garden bed sits in the back and many smaller pots fill in around the perimeter. Whether it is sunny mornings with cafes con leche and the paper or cool evenings with tasty local brews, we love to hang outside...

How did you create it? Luckily, the bed was already there when we moved in. All the pots were added by Heather. After a battle with smothering ivy and wicked weed trees, she has a wonderful home for her "babies."

Recommended store, site, product or resource? Greensgrow Farms - urban non-profit farm and nursery, various local fundraisers selling plants, Philadelphia Water Company - Gave out free water barrels to keep the water out of the waterways and into our garden, Pete Morrison - Heather's father has the greenest thumb of anyone we know.

I really like the mix of patio furniture. It looks more interesting and makes the greenery/flowers pop.

Wow...the garden entries this year are really impressive! This is a wonderful area to retrieve at the end of the day for drinks, an evening supper or just sitting. I love the raised garden bed and the plants have filled out beautifully... gorgeous containers with the blue flowers. It really is an additional 'outdoor' room. Great job!

Also....that's really nice that your community gave out free water barrels. I have one, but I bought it. They are really great!

Wow! It's nice to know about the non-profit nursery. I'd never heard of it.

This looks so gorgeous. The way the furniture is set up is very inviting and I almost hear those white chairs saying `come sit here in the sunshine - it will make you happier`.

Philly representin'! Cool yard. Brick work looks nice against the wood and flowers.
