Ikea In-Store Photos of Great New Items!
Washington DC

8-12-ikea-16.jpg
We braved the Ikea in College Park, MD last weekend and found the new items that are actually on display in the store. Shown here and below the jump are new items that we liked in person, but be warned: we adore IKEA (we admit to vibrating with excitement upon entering the store) so it's really, really difficult for us to narrow down our favorites. More new products, photos and information below the jump...

Shown above the jump are the Tirup chairs ($399 each); Trollsta side table ($79); Klippin sofa ($399), Red Malte stool ($39.99), Ange black chair ($129) and Textur lamps ($29.99).

The Melbu line shown on this page above reminds us of the tropical furniture in DC store Muleh. Melbu is much cheaper, of course: Melbu bed frame alone ($329); frame with base ($409); end table ($70); mirror ($149).

Below is the Granas dining table with storage under the glass. The table comes with four chairs ($249). The second photo shows a closeup of the storage space.

What do you think of these new items? Have you been to Ikea to check out the new stock? If not, will you go soon?

We couldn't fit all of favorites into this post so look out for more posts from the College Park, MD Ikea this week...

Seriously? $399 for those chairs? I would never buy a $400 chair from Ikea.

I know- I was kind of relieved they're so expensive. Now I don't have to make the trek to Ikea. There is no way I'd pay $400- they are awesome though.

That is a bit pricey for an Ikea chair...but it is a fabulous chair. Guess I'll keep my eyes peeled on the as is section for this.

I find that the non-particle board furniture from Ikea is usually more expensive. This chair is constructed with a steel frame and upholstered in leather. I'm also guessing there's not much assembly to this either, unlike some other chairs. I dunno, the price seems justifiable to me as long as it doesn't feel wobbly when you sit on it.

I thought the Granas table and chairs were relatively old items. Some friends of mine bought the set about 3 years ago when they moved into a new apartment.
I'd like to check out a few things, but I just need to stay away from Ikea until I have a bit more disposable cash on hand. The trouble of making the trip always seems to justify some kind of purchase.

OK, someone asked about the Melltorp table in another Ikea thread, and yes, it IS very sturdy and it's a very basic, simple construction (a frame is $30, the table top is $35 for the 68in version). It only comes in white, but I fell in love. For $70 it's probably the cheapest thing in Ikea that you'll get the most use out of it.

UNFORTUNATELY, all the bastard college kids have snapped up almost everything in the store. They've been out of the custom table I wanted to create (in the Vika line) AND all sizes of Melltorp. It's about $100 to get it shipped to me, which is not going to happen.

If the Melltorp in 68 doesn't come in shortly, I'm going to go build myself a craft table from plywood and sawhorses. But I want it so bad, it's PERFECT.

Luckily for me, I don't need the 68" Melltorp. The 49" will do just fine...and is at all 3 Baltimore area Ikeas. :)
Heidi, you could call and have them put you on a wait list for it, I know that they'll do that sometimes...

I was just at the College Park Ikea yesterday and was really disappointed they didn't have anything from that new beech finish Solaer kitchen cabinet door line on display! No sample doors, and no sample kitchen, which is something I'd really want to see before ordering because of the strong woodgrain pattern.

Before we trekked out there (ours is the Pittsburgh location) I checked the website and they had the 49 and 29 in stock... now? Nothing. I was thinking I could try and use one of each, but it really wouldn't work... plus they just said to keep calling until it comes in, no one said I could be on a wait list! geez.

It's just really far away for us, two parkways, two tunnels and a LOT of traffic, both ways. To schlep back out there for a $70 table. But it's so nice... darn them!

[They also didn't have the Barometer ceiling track lighting I liked - it doesn't need to fasten into the ceiling except at the central point, and it was cheap... Still not in stock at the store either, four days later.]

I went to the College Park IKEA early Wednesday afternoon. Had the place all to myself. I found, like so many others, that had none of the items I went for in stock. That $400 chair is very well made and super comfortable. I'll be checking the AS-IS section for it. I think it's the first time I left IKEA without a purchase. The frozen yogurt cone doesn't count.

How in the world did you get away with taking pictures in Ikea? I went to the same College Park Ikea location in 2001, took a couple of pictures and was almost booted from the store! Not joking! Some security guy ran up from nowhere, told me it was against store policy, and said I'd have to leave if I didn't put my camera away. Oh well...maybe times have changed.

The Granas table definitely isn't new. Maybe it's "newly brought back", but my brother and sister in law bought that set like three of four years ago for their kitchen.

its good to hear such good things about the melltorp. it does look really good in the catalog. if we can't find anything on craigslist i think we will go with the melltorp for our dining room (if the schaumburg store has it!), as we basically have an entire house to furnish on a budget... and i know dining chairs will be pricey.

...out with my hubbys bachelor pad stuff and my college furniture!

Funny that the granas table and chairs have 'NEW' tags on them, maybe they are new to College Park. I bought the chairs in 2005 for my apartment. I still use them with my West Elm butterfly leaf table (Craig's list!), and they are still in great condition, you just have to tighten the legs once in a while.

The Tirup chair has been at Ikea for a while. I only go to Ikea every few months, and the last trip wasn't the first time I saw it there, and that was several months ago. I tried it out and fell in love... it fits my tiny frame sitting indian style perfectly with room to spare. My BF however is not convinced it's worth the price. The fabric one is only $350 (I use the term "only" loosely) but I like the purple leather one a lot. Too bad there is absolutely nothing purple in my house for it to match :(

I kind of dig the yellowy greeny colored one as well. We'll see if I give in when we update the living room. The kitchen remodel is first, and I hate how they put out the awesome new solar panels.
