Ikea's New Designs for 2010
Cote Maison

Our favorite French decor site Cote Maison has a great slide show of Ikea's new product designs for 2010. The website is based in France and prices are in euros, but we're hoping that some of these designs make it to U.S. Ikea stores. We're excited about the canopy bed, colorful kitchen, and new fabric patterns - not so convinced by the new Billy bookcase door pattern...

What do you think of Ikea's new 2010 designs?

That looks like the same Hemnes canopy bed available now, just in a new color. Seems like it's gone through several colors over the years. I love that bed, but I'm always concerned about how sturdy IKEA beds will be.

As expected, love most of it. As unexpected, really dislike the oversimplified overstuffed couch.

Meh. Looks like a lot of the same old stuff but in new colors and finishes.

I am also both gratified and horrified that my prediction of Mondrian-inspired furnishings coming back into vogue has turned out to be true. The most hellish part of the '80s is truly here.

I think the new billy bookcase doors are great...in moderation, though. I imagine a whole wall of them could be quite potent. On the other hand, if your wall colour pulled in the blue or green and the rest of your furniture was neutral, maybe it would work....

I LOVE the colourful kitchen. It totally makes me smile.

The tubing running across the bottom front of the sofa/chair is not very nice.

I've seen that fabric at the College Park, MD, Ikea. They definitely have two birdie-related patterns (one with a light brown accent color, and another with a gray-blue accent color), and they also have the fabric version of the new Billy shelf door pattern with the blue and green trees.

ya, umm sturdy not... not that bed anyway. especially if your , enjoying someone else's company. it is a crap shoot on many of their things in regards to sturdiness really... the ektorp line of sofa's and sleepers are notorious for falling apart, but i digress...

i'm really kind of disappointed in their "new" designs as a previous poster said, it's just color changes really. all a bunch of been there seen it. I do like some of their new textiles though. the unfinished cartoon-like birds and flora are neat enough to frame possibly.

the de stijl kitchen/living room is a god-awful primary nightmare though. just sayin!

all that aside, the catalog should be fun for an afternoon (or several bathroom readings) of looking at how they have arranged their gear around other cool stuff that they don't sell... who isn't always up for design porn!

Are we talking about the billy glass doors with the fabric inset? Don't they already have that...and just added fabric or paper on the inside?

that new white bedroom furniture looks good to me in the 6th pic... but those sofas in the 1st pic are scaring me! i'm not a fan of the 80's influence! can't wait till the new catalog comes out though!

also just curious if anyone knows, ikea says their kitchen pricing is only good through june, do the cabinet prices generally go up a lot each year? we just bought our first home and are going to redo the kitchen but i would like to live with the existing layout for a while to see how it works for me before we shell out money for new cabinets- so we are prolly going to wait till we get our 2010 tax return. i priced out new cabinets if we were to keep our existing layout, just curious how much that will go up.

Yes, Exactly.

And that kitchen/family room is red-hot mess.

I'm indifferent for the most part.. I do like the lacks, I have yellow accents in my living room and was thinking of putting two side tables together as a coffee table. These would work perfectly.

Meh. And I like IKEA. These colors simply don't do much for me at all. (other than the blue LACK.) Then again, I don't need to buy a thing anyway at this point...and so it's nice to be temptation free, I guess.

PS -- Yeah, as others have said, that new sofa design is simply ghastly...

I like the new color blends. However, it is the black/white/grays that are the prettiest.

I'm not fond of the colorful chunky couch/chairs because they aren't my style, but the rest of it (especially the knobs on the black furniture) is just lovely. I think some of the new stuff is very sophisticated and beautiful.

I love the birds fabric. I bought a length of it and covered up the sides of my airconditioner unit with it and then cut out one of the big pictures of a bird and framed it

Completely hate the rest, but I'm in love with the Edland line (as shown in the picture with the white canopy bed). I found it about a month ago and I'm simply mad about it:

http://shockthebourgeois.blogspot.com/2009/05/c-raigs-list-and-i-have-very-healthy.html

Also, I own the Hemnes- and I've found it to be incredibly sturdy. It takes a lot of abuse from me, and it's still in perfect shape.

Is it just me or is this bold color trend becoming increasingly infantile. It looks like the color inspiration here was found in a pack of 8 basic Crayolas.

the white chair in that first photo looks comfie. I wouldn't mind a pop of color, though to another posters comment, it is frighteningly a bit too 80s.

I have the Hemnes bed in the pine unfortunately (though I've been debating painting it espresso to change to look i want) and I have had great luck with it for 6 years. I had to get a new bolt (cam?) at one point.

I also had an Ektorp sofa, and still have the chair for about 6 years as well. Also very sturdy and no complaints. And when I got bored with the color, I just bought new covers.

I like the sofa - sort like the poor man's or woman's Togo from Ligne Roset.

I also like the Breuer-esque chair in the main photo on this post.

And, of course, I love love love anything and everything about IKEA kitchens! Everytime I see a new door front, I'm, like "Damn, why didn't they have this in 2007 when I redid my kitchen."

Ikea used to be bolder... They are getting too classic and not enough new ideas. New colors don't do much for me, the fabrics are Orly copied and that kitchen is truly scary.

The whole black Edland bedroom set alongside the white Hemnes canopy bed is in stores now at IKEA...and I've seen that whole stack of fabrics for sale on the site. So I guess this is really just 2009 with a couple of 2010 hints.

Dude... Chill!!! not everyone is aware of how to enter accents via ascii if their keyboard does not allow for it using the shift key. more to the point, you think that if it was such a big deal, their website would not be http://www.cotemaison.fr/ (see any accents there?? thought not) html doesnt know what to do there with accent chars, but you certainly understood what the poster was trying to say, right??? deep breath and go about your day!

cheers...

Just because ignorant ("not everyone is aware") people post does mean that I have to support it.

HTML, properly written, certainly knows how to deal with accented characters.

I saw the white canopy Hemnes bed in store the other day, and it is just like the previous yellow bed (which I have), except that the headboard and footboard are now made of particle board instead of being solid wood. Seems like that would make it less sturdy.

Love the black/gray pieces in the picture with that bed, too. They look more dark gray than black in person and they have a satiny-smooth finish.
