Look!: Using CD's to Make a Room Divider

01-16-cd-2.jpg
If you've downloaded your music and don't want to store your CD's, here's an idea for making those disks into decor. Organize your CD's by cover art color or paint them. Then string them up as a room divider. Closeup of the room divider below the jump...

This room divider was spotted at The Scrap Exchange in Durham, North Carolina.

Would you try this with your CD's?

No, it's a little too 'dorm-room' for me, thanks.

Hmm. I agree with the dorm-room criticism, I think. I think I'd like it better if they were a uniform color, essentially just preserving the geometry and repetition of the cds. I wonder, can you spray-paint cds?

This can go wrong so fast. My sister did this when she was 13- usually with the string and hanger choice it can look cheap and tacky easily...

I made a lamp out of old office CDs once. I took apart an old lamp and salvaged the wiring and the metal pole around it. I made a wooden base that I painted, then stacked CDs around the pole about 10 inches high. I bought a shade at Target or someplace like that. It was really modern and pretty because the light reflected through the edges of the CDs.

Sometimes I wonder if AT posts things like this just to get a reaction- haha.

Why are we insulting dorm rooms? This looks more like something your third grader would bring home from daycare.

I like the shape and idea - I would string up a more substantial version of this and paint all sides the same flat, neutral color. Mod!

I may in fact do that. But leaving the CD's as is could get really tacky, really fast.

Seriously? You do realize it's now 2009, right?

I hear you can make earrings and drink coasters from CD's as well...

Yes, this is pretty bad.
Does anyone remember the truly awful posts suggesting we melt our vinyl records in the oven and reshape them into bowls and ashtrays?
AT is so funny sometimes.
