A Love Letter For You
West Philadelphia

Most people who reside in West Philadelphia have fallen madly in love with it. An old school graffiti artist has come back to his old stomping ground to help residents continue to fall in love with West Philly with each train ride.

Steve Powers has been in the graffiti game for years; he's pretty much an inspiration to anyone that knows anything about graffiti. He also happens to be a Philadelphia native and was obviously the best fit for this awesome project- A Love Letter For You. These murals are not only inspirational, but they're also meant to pay homage to all of the original painted signs.

Espo has teamed up with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Septa, Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative, Brownstein Group, as well as young adults in the area. Together they have produced 50 love letter murals that are spread throughout the beloved West Philadelphia.

The murals are best viewed while riding the EL - for a complete list of murals, their locations and the best direction to view them from the train visit the A Love Letter For You blog

Awesome! ESPO is great -- still true to his roots, but he's definitely matured in his practice and context over the years. I greatly respect him and his work.

Damn, that "I LOVE YOU" chain is sweet. The rooftops look so much better painted.

I love these. Started noticing them a few weeks ago and they really make the ride to/from work more enjoyable. It's like where's waldo every day looking for new ones that popped up.

OMG! How can you not LOVE Steve Powers? I'm a Philly gal born and raised and will take my teen daughter on the El train to West Philly murals!

The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program is a fantastic non-profit that's brought wonderful design to the most blighted of neighborhoods.

Keep up the great work PMAP and thanks to AT for posting this one!
