Corian Bench Inventions in Philadelphia

We've said it before, and we'll say it again — Philadelphia is a great walking city. With walking comes sitting and Philadelphia is certainly prepared for that. Due to the popularity of benches in the city, a bench invention sprung up and designers jumped at the opportunity to use a new material in a new way.

CH Briggs, DuPont as well as Philadelphia based Designers and Architects teamed up for the Corian Bench Invention exhibition that runs through October 31, 2009. The forward-thinking benches combine technology and design to produce stirring images in unexpected locations.

These Benches range from illuminated crates and futuristic pods to stoops, ribbons and Lego-like benches. All of the Benches that are on display are made from Corian — a flexible design material that can be thermoformed into custom shapes.

You can visit these benches in these three locations:

Schuylkill Banks Park: On the river banks between Cherry Street and Walnut Streets

Chestnut Park: 1707 Chestnut Street between 17th and 18th Streets

Three Parkway Plaza: 110 North 16th Street between Cherry Street and Arch Streets

As always, you can find more information on the CH Briggs website.

The folks behind Corian are super-inventive -- they created the entire category 30-plus years ago, and keep on innovating.

I love the brand's new Private Collection:
