apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Hacked Cat Climbing Tree

Betty Climbing Pole.jpg A friend of ours moved from a house to an apartment that was charming but short on space. She wanted to provide her indoor cat with a little more freedom than the cramped quarters would allow so she decided to go up. A climbing post would not take up a lot of space and her landlord, who was quite enamored with her beautiful cat, took it upon himself to tackle the situation.

Triumphant Betty.jpg With some jute rope in hand and a few pre-made cat posts he started to work. He took the pre-made posts apart and fitted them together. To add some extra length he added some sturdy cardboard tubes. With everything configured together and stabilized he used the extra Jute rope to hide the bare spots. The last step was attaching one end to the floor and one end to the ceiling. With a small platform attached over the door molding Betty the cat now has her own penthouse apartment with an entry that keeps her active and healthy all day (and night long).
