Alek's Retro Paradise Bedroom
Room for Color - South #8

thumbs up

Name: Alek
Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee
Type of Home: single family home

Color Inspiration: While I was growing up it seemed like almost everyone I knew, family included, always had those plain white walls with beige and neutral accents, and I always swore that when I had a house of my own that I was going to paint every room a bright and different color. In this room the Marimekko bedspread was my very first purchase for the house I just bought recently, and the rest of the room and the color choices seemed to evolve around it.

Give Alek a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Alek's Retro Paradise

Colors Used: Wall color: Teal Zeal Behr Primer Paint Plus, Marimekko Bedspread, The orange picture is 70's wallpaper from a friends basement

Color Tip: Don't be afraid to use color just because your afraid you won't like it. Most of the time once you get the color on the wall, and you've put the room back together, you like it a whole lot more than when you were looking at it on the color square or in the can. If you trust your gut instinct most of the time you end up happy with it, and if you don't you can always paint it again.

Love the bedspread colors with the wall color! Great choices!

I feel like this room is missing its oomph, but it's a gorgeous color and I love the bedspread. I would make the curtains were full length (and up to the ceiling), get larger lamps and add to the album collection. But it's the start of a really great room.

seattlearchitects, I was thinking the same. Are the mouldings oak or orange, I can't tell?

A dark wood door and rug would've pulled this together much more. Although, for some strange reason, I really like how the dresser complements the room.

I love the 'headboard'! Am I right that it's just painted on and the leafy stuff is some kind of sculpture? Also love the pink panther album and the deco vanity. good luck with your new house!

What are the "leafy things"? I love them (and your choice of color!)

The leafy things :D are a wall hanging from pier one imports, and yes it is a painted head board. I was trying to use up paint I used in the rest of the house and this site was talking about painted head boards, so I tried it and I love it.

The first picture is gorgeous. I love the bedspread, the wire leaf art and the paint colors. The small (table runner?) on the nightstand complements it all very nicely, too. I wish the dramatic impact of this part of the room was carried throughout the room, but this one photo alone puts it in the finals for me.

Very nice. I disagree with the suggestion of white for the furniture and trim. Too country then. This is definitely more of 70's take--not country cute. Like it a lot.

Cute. I think crown moulding would do wonders for "finishing".
