Name: Melanie
Location: Catonsville, Maryland
Type of Home: 1950s rowhouse
Color Inspiration: I have to confess — the kitchen cabinets were there when we moved in, and in amazing shape! We decided to embrace the turquoise and figured the only color we couldn't use was a competing blue. Using the black inset on the cabinets as a base, we went with black and white tiles on the diagonal to make the galley kitchen seem larger. And we used red, yellow, apple green, and orange here and there to brighten up the narrow space.
Give Melanie a THUMBS UP if you think this room belongs in the finals!

Colors Used: Black and white Congoleum 16" tiles
Walls - Benjamin Moore Harbor Gray AC25
LG French door black refrigerator
Turquoise Cabinets - there before we moved in
Crate and Barrel wall pot rack (no longer available)
Color Tip: A little color goes a long way (at least with bright accents). Oh, be careful with gray - we went through two previous colors before we found the right one, without tints of pink or blue. But paint's easy to fix.

LOVE the color Harbor Gray by Benjamin Moore!! I searched and searched for the perfect neutral gray for our house, and finally found this one. It has a hint of blue, but not too much. I painted our kitchen, entry, and master bathroom in this shade, and it looks good in all.
Another great gray for gray lovers is Benjamin Moore's Winter Gates.....it complements Harbor Gray beautifully

I just bought some black and white tiles to cover our horrid linoleum kitchen floor - your pictures are making me very excited for the installation! Beautiful, soothing, elegant and comfortable kitchen - bravo!

I love how the red pops out of the kitchen. And I'm totally jealous, as I lived in Catonsville for 6 years and never had anything as cute as that in my rental!

What type of flooring is that? Was it easy to install? I like how big the tiles are.

My gray kitchen looks baby blue. This post is about a week too late.

This is so pretty! Love the black and white tiles, but I'm sure you feel my pain...they look clean for about 2 seconds!

Cuuute! Glad you decided to work with the cabinets, there's a certain french chicness to the blue but with a Mid-Atlantic charm.
