I love the ceiling idea. I've seen it done on porches in Charleston and Savannah and have been thinking about doing it for awhile now. Love the unexpected mix of trad and modern here.

Hmm, this is an incredibly inventive wall treatment, but its utter lack of connection to the (strong and distinctive) architectural elements of the space really bugs me. I think this would be more effective in a generic space that needs a dose of personality, rather than in this one.

that's funny! before i read your inspiration, i was thinking it reminded me of target, but that's good b/c there's something about shopping in target that's warm & fuzzy. i also like the mix of modern shapes & colors with the older, more traditional bones. i also appreciate the ceiling.

Those floors! The mouldings! The ceiling! Why, oh why can't they speak for themselves?!

I think the multi-colored, round-cornered box thing is a little dated, but not dated enough, for the space. I agree with the "Target CD Case" comment, unfortunately.

Hate pastel, love your use of it! I love the patterns used, which give the pastels a totally different dimesion. I don't think it looks like a child's room at all. I love the fireplace and the chandelier and the furniture placement is perfect! Great job; come do mine!

The ottoman is from UrbanOutfitters.com. Thanks for all the kind words. The room is definitely not for everyone, but is a fun place to hang out and my kids definitely love it. Not sure if I will keep the walls like this forever--it definitely has an expiration date, however I also can't imagine painting over it and all the hard work that went in to it.

It skates right on the edge between genius and madness, but I think it comes down on the genius side, especially since it's grounded (ironically enough) by the solid blue ceiling.

I think that Traci has done what so many "Good Question" people have wanted to do - she's modernised a classic old house without harming the period features. It's fresh and fun and now, and most importantly if she decides in the future that she wants to go more classical all she has to do is repaint.

The bones of this room are amazing, and I would have done something more classic with it. However, there is a serenity here and a cohesiveness that really works. The mirror in the fireplace is inspired. I vote yes!

yes it does look like a cheap target cd case. The architecture of the room is great and helps to make the already dated paint treatment look better. I can imagine a child would love this.

To the people who say "It's not me", of course it's not you! It's wonderfully THEM. This is a truly original use of color in a relatively small room. I like that they didn't feel compelled to go with some sort of mod-theme in the extreme, which would have detracted from the room's warmth and livability. Lovely.

I like this one the best so far because she has done more than just paint her room a "wacky" color. If you look at the color schemes of the other rooms, they just use one bold color on the wall and then have a few tiny accents. "Look at me, I painted a room orange and I'm ca-RA-zay!"

This one is truly using the whole color palette and she has normal furniture and accessories that would work in another way in the future.

While I'm impressed that you were able to do a tedious project, I'm going to agree with fabframes, spanky and mskk (although, I think it looks for like a target gift card), that it just doesn't work.

I would've suggested using that color palette (which is really pretty and great for a young family) and gone with a fun wallpaper or even painting a pattern. I really want to love this room but I think the pattern is a bit dated and a tab generic. Your furniture and color picks are beautiful, I think it just needs to be tweaked a bit :)

I say this with a loving heart :)

Very interesting idea, and a fun thing to try, but I agree with fabframes and mskk too. Most people would kill to have a houes with that kind of architectural detail, but I think the wall design detracts from it rather than enhances it.

On another note, the photo with the little girl sitting in the armchair reading is adorable!! :)

Respect the architecture.

This look is better suited to a 14-year-old girl's basement bedroom.

:( I'm sad to see people just don't get the incredible mix and matching not of objects, but of styles, and the result which is more than the sum of the parts... This one is probably the only suitable modern way to honour a victorian that I've ever seen.

Love the mix of victorian (room architecture, chandalier) and modern (walls, furniture). And painting the ceiling is an interesting touch. Pastel colors are not my thing, but, that is just me. Overall a really great room.

Where's the great chandalier from?

Yes, she has a gorgeous house with glorious detailing but what she's done with color is remarkable - I trust she's not a professional? And people, It's Just Paint! She gets tired of it and she paints over it! And the great thing about NOT having gone to "fun" wallpaper, is that she devined it herself. And it works regardless of the classicism of the bones and the allusions to Target. (I'll best the best of us sneak into Target frequently.)

It's surprising, delightful and courageous. And as temporary or permanent as she wants. Go for it Traci and enjoy it. I'll bet that little girl loves it too.

Is that the Macy's Corona couch? I'm loving the Macy's couch, but I'm wishing it came in a 76-inch version. The one here looks smaller than the one in the store, so I was wondering if you've found my perfect sofa or if it just looks smaller in your cozy space?

I adore everything about this. And I don't like 70's type geo designs OR pastel.

To everyone that is saying let the architecture speak for itself, then what would be the point of decorating. I can see the victorian design plain and clear, and it's beautiful. And I can see the room designer's style plain and clear, and it's beautiful too. Trust me, nothing can drown out that gorgeous detail.

Always falling back on working to highlight JUST the existing architecture can be boring, safe, and pointless. When it comes to innovative design which is meant to play with the unexpected in a way that exceeds the expected.

But, everyone has there opinion and personally I would prefer folks to be talking about my risks than my lack of initiative so great job.
Anywho, that's my $2k :)
