We've posted before about our love of unique coasters, but agree with the commenters who found the price of those recycled beauties a little steep. As we gear up for the holiday entertaining season, we thought we would share some of our favorite DIY coasters- perfect for use at home or as a hostess gift.

My studio's cork coasters [a DIY by us, but it could be replicated by anyone] are a great deal, I think, at $12 for a set of 9. The screenprinted design works so that you can put them all together to use as a large trivet:

They're actually made from larger sheets of cork, which we printed ourselves and then cut into the smaller squares. It's not a very complicated project!

i love these because this is one of my favorite children's books. there may still be a raggedy copy of this at my sister's house that i have to my niece a few years ago. perhaps i can find it and get cutting.

I made two eight piece sets of felt coasters... the idea came from a museum store online which had beautiful thick felt coasters in several colors to a set.... The thing is that my office had an activity where they had huge "cow spots" all over the walls. Once the thing was over they basically threw everything away... (yes, what a shame) but i managed to rescue a couple of pieces and i cut one set square and one set round. They are super practical, i have them for drinks but also for bases for plant pots and other stuff...
I've been thinking on more elaborate variations... but well, that'll have to wait a little bit!
