This multi-functional furniture piece, shown at the recent Milan Furniture Fair, is inspired by Piet Mondrian's paintings. Designed by Matali Crasset, the open room furniture piece reminded us of other quirky home accessories that are similarly inspired by great works of arts. See our picks below the jump...

Shown above are the MONA LISA DOOR MAT ($26), Andy Warhol Hot Red Lip Plates (set of 4 for $18.95), and the Venus lamp ($129, comes in three different colors). Below is the Picasso Chair. The fabric design includes images from Picasso's Guernica. We think it's interesting but wouldn't want Picasso's powerful image of the bombing of Guernica on our living room furniture.
Do you have a favorite furniture piece or home accessory inspired by an art masterpiece?

That first piece does Mondrian's work no justice. For 3d interpretations of Mondrian, Reitveld's Schroder House is much more refined, and 85 years old!

I do love the Guernica painting chair! It seems friendlier as a chair.

Guernica isn't SUPPOSED to be friendly, it's about a massacre. I love the colors and angular patterns as uholstery, but it's just wrong to use that painting that way. Disrespectful. Sort of like using photos of famine-starved children.
The white Venus is kind of cool, but not the color ones.
Mona has been so abused in so many ways over the years it's just another one.
The lips dishes are disturbing. (Pre-tasted food??)
The Mondrian inspired furniture at least takes the painting concept into a new direction. THAT is inspiration, rather than just "use" of the design in a different way.
Mostly this stuff seems like kitsch to me.

Other than the style of the chair, not the particular pattern, this sort of look is really lost on me. It just isn't my thing.
