Despite our best intentions to always stay on top of paperwork disposal, the unfortunate reality is we've toted boxes of paper through four countries in ten years- the madness has got to end! Faced with the lofty goal of going paperless by the end of the fiscal year, we've been sorting and tossing, and watching with despair as the "to be shredded" pile grew and grew...
Imagine our delight when we stumbled upon this announcement of a community shred event on June 28th at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. You can bring up to five boxes of personal papers to the Fairgrounds from 8am to 11am to be shredded for free. All types of personal paper, empty binders, credit cards and computer disks will be accepted for destruction; no business or commercial material will be accepted. We can't wait- we've got at least three boxes ready to go, and may be able to get to five by Saturday!

Thanks for the heads-up. I've got a couple of boxes I've been slowly working my way through at work, but this sounds much easier!

This would be awesome in Boston. They are always doing stuff at Hynes. I'm wondering what the rationale is on the "You must drive up and not walk in with materials to be shredded." I would have to rent a car to take advantage... how do they operate the shredding, they just take your stuff, send you home, and tell you it will all be fine?

In LA, we have a service called Drop n' Shred which works out of local UPS stores. They weigh your material ($1 per pound) and drop it in a huge locked bin which is then periodically collected for shredding. I would imagine they have something similar in most major cities.
