On a mission to pick up a gift card for an upcoming wedding, last week we discovered the Crate and Barrel has a store in Spring Valley, DC. Delighted to save ourselves a trip to the mall, Mom and I popped over and were delighted to discover that the store has an entire floor dedicated to the C&B furniture line. We started trying out chairs and couches, and then fell in love with the chair and ottoman shown above...
Shown in Notting Hill Copper, the Petrie Leather Chair is wide and extremely comfortable, the ideal reading nook for me. Mom loved the 60s styling- the tapered legs and tufted cushions apparently called to mind the first sofa she and my dad ever owned (why oh why did they ever get rid of that piece?)
The chair features a certified sustainable, kiln-dried hardwood frame, and the seat cushion is soy-based polyfoam with fiber encased in downproof ticking. Made in the USA, this chair would be a wonderful addition to any room. In person, the butter soft copper leather is truly beautiful; the chair feels broken-in even though it isn't.
Unfortunately, the $2900 price for the package ($2000 for the chair, $900 for the ottoman) means we the chair behind for others to enjoy, but if you are in the market for new seating, we highly recommend checking out this model of the ever-popular Petrie line.
I actually have a chair like that from the 60's or 70's. It's a relic of my parents' furniture collection from when they first married. Granted, mine does not look nearly as pristine as the newer C&B ones above. It's nice to see a mass retailer like C&B embracing good examples of modern design.

I sat in this chair (astonishingly comfortable) at the store and preceded to stare at it for a while, wondering how I could come up with the money asap.

We are shopping for a new couch, and the C&B Petrie is one of our top choices. The leather is gorgeous and super soft (the sofa and chair and ottoman are all pretty comfortable to sit in), but the leather chair at the C&B in Boston is pretty scratched and scuffed, which leads me to worry about how well it will wear.
I got a sample of the leather, and I can easily scratch it with a fingernail. Not that I plan on clawing at my couch, but I'm just thinking of things like zippers on jackets, dangly belts, watches, things that are hard/pointy that may get dragged across the leather.

I purchased the Petrie sofa chair and sofa (in white uphols) 3 years ago and its not comfortable at all. But I didnt buy it for comfort. I love the look of it. And the great thing about it is Im looking forward to redoing the fabric later on when I get tired of the white.
As for the leather, good leather will allow you to buff up the scratches with a good leather cleaner and a soft cloth. Ask the sales associate about that.

JulieM: It seemed pretty comfortable when I sat on it - can you tell me what problems you have with it? I'm just wondering if the cushions wear poorly over time or if I just didn't sit on it for long enough. Thanks!

I was all ready to buy the Petrie sofa -- finally comes in leather, removable legs! And then the salesman told me the price. Oh well.
