What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? None of the rooms are quite square, so I had to be creative with my layout. I arranged and rearranged until I got the balance more or less right (though I've only been here for about 8 months, so I imagine I'll continue to decorate and shift pieces around the apartment).

So airy and inviting. And what a clever way to arrange everything in such an oddly shaped space!

it's incredibly beautiful and creative! especially when considering how difficult (most likely) the space was to work with!

The living room is so cozy and very well pulled together for an odd space. Nice light and colors.

where did you get those two white side tables that are shown in the first and last picture? I love your space, especially given how odd a space you had to work with.

very sweet. Did you have the living room chair recovered? Or is that the original fabric?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Just to answer queries...the two white side tables are from CB2, and are really nice quality considering how inexpensive they are. The living room chair was a flea market find, and was originally a really unattractive yellow/green with gold metallic threads (which could sounds like it could have been really cool, but was really not) so I had it recovered with pretty textured cream fabric. And the red and white round chair in the bedroom was also a flea market find, as was the coffee table, which I stripped and refinished.

Love all your vintage lamps and furniture! Kudos on your layout...it's an oddly shaped space, but you have worked wonders with it.

I like how your graphic hand towels stand out against the black stove. Great job on all of it, everything really just "pops."

Lana, do you do a lot of shopping at Circa? My style is very similar to yours and I'm also in C-ville. Just wondering if you're finding a lot of your midcentury modern pieces somewhere around here locally. Beautiful place!

ThatGrrl--I love poking around Circa, it is such a great store! Almost all of my vintage pieces are actually from flea markets and estate sales up in Connecticut and New York though, where I lived before I moved to Cville this past August. I'm hoping to find some equally good flea markets down here; do you know of any?

Lana, unfortunately, we don't have flea markets in C-ville. There might be something in Richmond (haven't investigated that). But there are a surprising number of antique stores in the area. Some are better than others. Feel free to take it offline and email me directly: prettyprankster@mindspring.com

What a wonderful home. Even with an odd layout, it just works. Love love love the living room! It is full of sunlight and I could just curl up and read all day! I love the black bookshelves in the hallway by the kitchen. You did a really nice job!

Just got to ask about your white chair as well. If found the same chair at a second hand store. It was upholstered when I bought it. Then a roommate let her cat claw at it and as a result I discovered that it too is covered in a fabric containing gold threads. Maybe it was mass produced in the same fabric. Now here is my question: How much yardage did you supply for the re-upholstery job and how much did it cost to re-upholster it? You can respond to me via my blog Do you see the chair??
