Small Cool 2009: Linn's Norwegian Calm
International Division #13

thumbs up

Who Lives Here: Linn
Location: Buvika, Norway
Size: 527 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The shelves on the wall behind the kitchen table. I bought the shelves and painted them white, and then I painted a white square directly on the wall behind them. Just to make it a little more interesting.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? Finding the right colour for the walls. I picked up tons of paint samples before I decided on this colour. I actually thought it would be a lot more gray than blue when I bought it, but I'm really happy about how it turned out.

love the wall color, and that it manages to be minimalist without being austere.

Wow, that seems a lot bigger than 527 square feet. Really beautiful, if a bit dark. I love the tiny bedroom.

I also like the colour. I've been thinking about painting my bedroom a similar colour and the pictures of this room may just push me into action.

yes, it certainly feels larger than 527 sf. I love the little aubergine table in the bathroom.

I love the whole thing except for the comforter on the bed. As beautiful as it is, it looks like it is too small. A tightly made bed with super crisp sheets would take the bedroom to a whole other level!

I think that tablecloth is by Marimekko. I've been fixating on their new wares designed by Sanna Annukka. It's good stuff, and that burst of bright blue looks great in the neutral kitchen. Great apartment!

love it all, but wow is that a tight squeeze over to the dresser! i'd probably do a clumsy somersault over the bed instead of slinking by the foot of the bed ;)

to letterecher: In some European and Scandinavian countries they sleep inside of a folded duvet on top of a fitted sheet instead of under a sheet duvet. This is how we did in Germany.

The tree print curtains are lovely!! Who makes that fabric? I second or third the request for a name. I love the way it brings the outdoors into your bedroom.

calming & serene. love it. some constructive criticism: the furniture placement in the bedroom is a little awkward & the bathroom could be softened up with a small rug.

love your place!

I found the fabric for the bedroom curtains (and the curtains in the living room as well) in a store called Åhlens. :) I don´t think they have stores outside of Scandinavia though.

I visited Sweden and Denmark in the 70s and loved the way many bathrooms are laid out, with the whole bathroom essentially being the shower floor. So practical! I see you have one like this (hence no rug, petal21).
