thumbs up

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? I am in graduate school so I am trying to put all my monetary resources towards tuition instead of home decoration. The only items, which I bought, were from craigslist or thrift stores, everything else I either made or was given by friends and family. Trying to tie together this eclectic mix of donations was a fun challenge.

Great use of the fireplace.....(it's probably closed up, anyway)

And I adore that spice rack.

Great job!

I think this is the first small, cool that I can see myself living in - well done! Love the fireplace as headboard, love the wall color and the not too cluttered white Expedit. Great job!

like everyone else, I love the fireplace headboard. I've got a closed up fireplace eyesore in my place and I wish it was in a location I could put my bed now!

Double take on the fireplace, nice job. Where did you get that hanging planter? I've been looking for something just like it.

Do your friends have an oriental they can lend me? And that desk looks way too clean to be the desk of a graduate student! Get back to work!

Good idea using the closed off fireplace as your headboard. Very creative. Also, I like the way you personalized the book shelf by attaching pictures on the side, it gives the illusion of a wall being there.

i assume because you're a student that you rent, but if i owned the place i would definitely tear down the wall between the kitchen and living room, the kitchen looks so cramped!

but i love the color and i love what you've done with the space.

As a fellow grad student, I have to ask, don't you have a million books hidden somewhere? That's my main decorating challenge.
I like the open shelf as a room divider. I think you could use the covered backs facing the bed to display art work or you could cover them with interesting patterned paper or fabric to make the piece look unique.
Great decorating job with limited resources!

Love the cool green on the walls and the use of a bookcase to separate the different areas. Nice work.

I have always wanted to use this bookcase in just this way, so I am happy to see how well it works! Love your place. Maybe one of your friends can lend you a big comfy easy chair? You definitely have room for one, and is the only thing missing (for me). Love the bike rack, I have been wanting my husband to install one in our foyer forever. He thinks it will be ugly, I think it looks like sculpture.

love your "headboard" and making your bike part of the decor. i'm having a similar dilemma w/where to put my bike - what did you use to hang it?

did anyone find out about how the bike is mounted on wall?
