Survey: Do You Like Orange Home Decor All Year or Only on Halloween?

10-31-orange.jpg

Happy Halloween! The Washington Post recommends decorating with the color orange all year to make your home brighter. The Post reports that paint company Sherwin-Williams is seeing a consumer shift from bright orange to more toned down oranges on "the spicier side." Included in Sherwin-Williams' color forecast for 2009 is a nutmeg shade of orange, which they call "Tiger Eye." Do you like orange in your home, either bright or toned down, all year or only on Halloween? Survey and more info below the jump...

I love orange and I have it in my home, but this is kind of a goofy question - I mean who nowadays has the luxury of space and storage and excess cash to burn to have home accessories specific to every single holiday, special occassion and/or season of the year?

bepsf, you'd be amazed. Out here in the wilds of suburbia, people spend their money on the goofiest things.

I change things like bedding and pillows seasonally.

And since orange is my bf's favorite color, I predict some more of that color in my home year 'round. He already has his orange toothbrush in my medicine cabinet. :)

since we don't celebrate halloween in brazil, and (i think) orange is a great color for decor, i have have plenty of bright and toned down orange in my house. mostly sofa throws, pillows, flowers (i always have plants with orange or yellow flowers) and pots. :)

We have an orange kitchen, and people tried to talk me out of it beforehand, but once people saw it they all love it. I am still grumpy that I allowed myself to be talked out a painting my newborn's nursery orange several years ago. I've since seen many an orange nursery and they look fabulous!

Orange isn't just for Halloween anymore!

Actually, neither is Halloween.

Further comment to bepsf and outonalimb... I certainly don't have room for decorations, and one of the ugliest trends that's been going on or a couple years are those hideous (and hideously CUTESY) inflatable lawn decorations that are about the size of a car. Bleccch!!!!!

We're under no illusions about our decorating prowess; it was the orange flokati that won a place in last year's AT color contest and got us featured in Toronto Life magazine: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/09/toronto-lifes-orange-crush/
I love orange!

I like orange but to the extent it's become so popular, I tend to avoid it, and rather actively get annoyed with the notion that it's become a shortcut to adding some current flavor of "hipness" to one's home; crazy pillows or painting a thrift store nightstand just isn't original. It's just sort of everywhere.

I use a cantaloupe shade of orange in my bathroom but it's rather far from Halloween-ish, and not really a good example of how a person would add orange to a color scheme by love of all things orange. I pretty much arrived at it by choosing the least heinous color of bathmat that was available at Target that day that didn't clash with the towels I already have, added a couple towels so it actually ties in with something, and since then, a shower curtain. I do want to change it though, I've had it like that about 3 years.

I love deep coral -- it's neither red nor orange, or pink -- yet it works as a stand in for all three. I use it as an accent, along with poppy red and orange through out my home. I do, however, say no to baby pinks.

I used to think I liked all colors equally. But I've realized that I tend to gravitate toward orange and think it might be my favorite color. I painted my bedroom orange.

I love orange. Burnt orange, not regular orange.
I love the pillow in the image above. Anyone know the source?

I thought I was a trendsetter when I bought these orange ultrasuede chairs back in 2002!!

At first I was disappointed because the chairs were less vibrant than the swatch I thought I'd ordered. But the muted color actually was better in the long run.

I think orange is "done" now - at least for me. I'm getting ready to order new covers for these chairs and it's a toss-up between apple green and a bright purple...

I can't wait to put out my hideous and hideously cutesy giant inflatable black widow spider tonight. The trick or treaters love it and so do I.

Viva la difference!

I adore orange - it and yellow (and yellowy-orange - the colour of ripe mango flesh) are my favourite colours. I cheerfully use orange as an accent, and would happily have a room where the main colour in the scheme was orange! (Just not one of those pale watered-down peach tones. Way to suck all the fun out of it!)

I had a great pair of vintage pumpkin-orange wing chairs until recently and only parted with them because they were falling apart.

I do love pumpkin orange (regardless of what month it is), but I'm going to be re-decorating with lots of red.

Love orange. Thinking of accenting our dining room (dark brown walls) with orange.

i love orange, but with so much green around my place from the last few years (including a bright green wall) i'm not allowing myself to get any of the awesome orange accessories that are available now. i still think about switching/mixing them though.

I had an earthy orange accent wall in my living room in my previous home. In this house, I am planning to make my home office orange themed. And yes, when I own a house, I am definite to use orange in my bedroom. I don't care which color is 'in fashion', as long as it makes me feel good, I will use it!

depends.
1) depends on the orange
2) depends on the room
3) depends on how it's used

Because I love Moroccan rugs, I have a lot of orange in my apartment -- from red orange all the way through to yellow orange. I "cut" the effect with other colors, but it still dominates.
