President Lincoln's cottage was opened to the public for the first time in 2008, after restoration by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The NPR story was really interesting, and worth a listen. Lincoln apparently used to walk, unescorted, from the summer cottage to the capital until people realized how dangerous it was for him to do.

Well, he rode, but yes. He took the same route too, every day! Lincoln Cottage is definitely worth the trek up and just gorgeous.
