Drapery Tie-Backs on a Comeback?

Let's re-think the tassel-clad drapery tie-back. We recently found these glass-beads-plus-silk ones from Brimar and are now seeing this once-passé décor item in a new light. From beaded tie-backs, to ribbon, to sailing rope &mdash can you see textile tie-backs working in a contemporary space?

Once again, there's something about living in the Mid-Atlantic that is giving this strictly contemporary design lover an appreciation for a more traditional look. We especially love it when traditional meets contemporary. Here are some of the tie-backs we've found ourselves open to:

Yes, I believe textile tie-backs are timeless & can work anywhere & with any style. The key is not to over-accessorize. If the curtain is very ornate with a busy pattern, then the tie-back should be simple ... & vice versa. This keeps the look from turning too trendy.

The beautiful Glass Bead Tieback from West Elm on http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/boston/roundup-curtain-tiebacks-080686 reminds me of the long necklaces that have come back in style. You may have solved a tieback dilemma for me ...

Hmmmm ... I inherited my mom's accessories ... her style was subtle elegance with a jazzy edge. My daughter & I have enjoyed the versatility of her timeless style as the beaded or metal necklaces & chain-belts of the 60s & 70s are back! Perhaps one that we aren't going to wear can be recycled into tiebacks! Now where are my needle-nose pliers?

I use cuff bracelets as tiebacks - they work like napkin rings. Swap them out when I want to wear the bracelet. I have one silver engraved one, one is silver with black enamel, one is silver with a few turquoise stones. Curtains are grey/black/white. I think they look nice, cohesive but to matchy.

I have used leather belts (thin brown leather belts over ivory linen curtains - fabulous), necklaces, heavy rope (tie and fray the ends), and sea shell strands.
