Inspiration for my palette:
The dark purple ceiling is painted with the intention of us putting a night sky on it in the future. The blues come from our love of Dali, Parrish & Micheal Parkes paintings as well as a book I wrote and published in which my main character is a painter with an obsession with blue. My boyfriend picked the dark pink accent because he liked how it looked with our bamboo floors. We like painted walls and ceillings, it makes the room feel cozy and full. Trade off: it's hard to take pictures. :o) It was also a way for me to have a bit of a dressing room without actually having one. I've been collecting vintage purses and handmade jewelry for years and I get inspired by what people make. People can be so very amazing.
Colors used in my room:
Gray, Dark Purple, Blues, Pink as accent (my boyfriend's choice!)
Tips for using color successfully:
Multiple layers and intersecting colors. Our town house was built in the 80's so it doesn't have too many interesting architectural details. However you can use your paint choices to give it eye drawing details. The bedroom has been referred to as a jewel box many times. Girly Wonderland came up a few times as well. Our male friends have teased my partner about the room but he's not too worried about it. We both always have input and the bedroom was important to me. The media room is his domain.
