Shaw's Original Fir...
Or others hold off until mid-December. I never put my tree or decorations up until then, on purpose, to keep closer to the spirit of the holiday. In fact, when I was young, I knew people who kept to the old tradition of putting up the tree on Christmas Eve, to surprise and delight the children when they got up in the morning. You can still see that in classic films.
I don't decorate for Christmas or any other holiday :)
Instead of saying "holiday" why not just Christmas since that is what is obviously being discussed, especially considering the picture being used.
Because, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, there are Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah, and people who do winter solstice type stuff without celebrating Christmas, and so forth. And also -- this is the part that really chaps me about the "Merry Christmas or Nothing!" Nazis -- many people who celebrate Christmas will maintain their decorations for one more week, for the holiday virtually everyone of every faith (or none) celebrates: New Year's Eve. Or mentioning the fact that Happy Holidays can encompass Christmas instead of excluding it also somehow vaguely offensive to you?
To get back to the topic: I won't be decorating for the holidays until I get back from a business trip next week. My Christmas tree would just wither and die if I left it that long. But when I come back, the sky's the limit!
Hey, I know where that picture was taken. :-)
@jdoey
I have a "Christmas" tree. I call it that only because it's the point of reference people like you understand. To me, however, it's just a fun winter decoration trimmed with stuff I find pretty, but which holds absolutely no "meaning" -- the winter holidays are just an excuse to go glitzy for a few weeks each year. I'm atheist. That doesn't mean I can't have fun in December! (My tree is actually pagan in origin, and I relate to that much better than to any religious ideas...)
If I can take a stab at what jdoey might be trying to say, it is that the majority of the links are for Christmas related traditions. The word "holiday" suggests that there would be a number of ideas for other kinds of festivities too. So if you clicked on this link expecting ideas for Hannukah or Kwanzah decorations, you might be disappointed. I don't think jdoey was trying to exclude anyone.
