Since moving to the Mid-Atlantic, I have a new liking for the following: toile, the color red, blue and white paired, bronze eagle objects, framed antique-y prints, brick, American flags, rocking chairs and antiques. What else do you appreciate about the DC-Maryland-Virginia style?
Coming from the Pacific Northwest meant a shift from mid-century modern, hipster style, to more traditional, colonial-influenced style. Have you ever moved to a new place and broadened your appreciation for that culture's décor, and then found yourself incorporating elements of that region's style?
Tell us what else you like about the flavor of the Mid-Atlantic:
• 1 American flags
• 2 The color red
• 3 Pairing of blue and white
• 4 Bronze eagle objects
• 5 Framed antique-y prints
• 6 Brick
• 7 Toile
• 8 Rocking chairs
• 9 Antiques

I used to spend oodles of dough on the Crabtree & Evelyn lavender linen spray; I can't tell you how great it is to know I can make my own at home! Thanks!
You forgot crab decorations for Maryland. Similarly in Maine, it's lobsters.
Center-Hall Colonial/Federal houses with wood floors, lots of carved mouldings and detached garages surrounded by large old trees in established neighborhoods...
(not the 1980's Faux-Federals and Subdivision-Colonials that have brick & divided-lite windows on the front and blank walls with vinyl siding on the other 3 sides of the house)
The other great thing about Traditional decor is that it really never goes out of style - With some judicious reupholstering, new draperies and fresh paint & wallpaper and you're good for another 15-20 years!
ummmm... no. :-)
prefer New England style, but the traditional harkens me back to my parents Federal Style farmhouse in NY's Finger Lakes region.
am beginning to lean towards modern after my daily dose of AT tho!
I wish there was a better variety with the housing style here in DC metro area.
