Stockholm firm WIS Design has developed a distinctive line of high-quality, high-concept furniture and lighting over the past few years. We've blogged their Proper Lamp, Chest of Drawers, and Twine Tables before. Today we're mining inspiration and ideas from the way they stage their products, like the carpeted shelving unit shown above...
We don't usually think of upholstering shelving, but the inset, carpeted shelf
in the top photo got us thinking that a similar DIY project could double as both shelving and seating in a living room.
These Gallery Kitchen Cabinets use cutouts to frame vignettes - a simple and effective way to customize furniture.
Playing with trompe l'oeil effects, this Teatime Wallpaper creates a funny focal point in the kitchen. The right photo shows WIS Design's Silicone Tablecloth, which reminded us that decals can be used to dress up furniture as well as walls.
One of our favorite pieces is the WIS Chest of Drawers. We remember a similar DIY project for customizing a case of drawers in ReadyMade. Another possible project: creating a scalloped runner for a chair, similar to the one WIS created for their Vanity Easy Chair.
In this Succé Office in Stockholm, a window box is mounted indoors, just below the window frame - a great way to dress up high windows.
WIS Design's Jewel Wallpaper is used to set off an office and define a headboard.
Another cutout piece, the Easel Chair, would be a great project to replicate at home.
