Although shutters once served the purpose to control light, ventilate rooms and provide protection; they are now primarily used for decoration. Whether colorful or rustic, they seem to add personality to certain houses and some would look absolutely naked without them.
We feel the same way about indoor shutters. Imagining these rooms without them would change the entire look. Here's another room we love featuring bold red shutters.

The blue is gorgeous. I love the look of wooden shutters, but they're such a pain to clean.
A pain to clean and to paint a new color. But I do love them.
Love incorporating shutters into decor.
In the movie "Dinner With Friends", I remember in Andie MacDowell's kitchen, there were glass cabinet doors with shutters behind the glass-I really loved that idea.
Awesome table - can anyone ID it for me?
thanks.
I love the look of shutters. I would love to add some to my house some day. I would think they wouldn't be such a pain to wipe down as taking down curtains to wash.
Ah, I love indoor shutters. I've been wanting to get some for our living room.
It shouldn't, with that many windows, but #2 is making me claustrophobic. The others are cute.
I don't think they would be more painful to clean than miniblinds - and I can't seem to avoid those, no mater where I rent!
I have never used shutters for a decorating project, but I always love the look of them! I think it's only a matter of time before I incorporate them into my own home.

Well, they are still used extensively to control light, ventilate rooms and provide protection here in Europe! I don't know anyone here who uses them just for decoration. If there's one thing I love, it's being able to open my south-facing window during a hot summer day while keeping the shutters closed, letting cool air in and keeping the hot sun (and prying eyes) out. For just that reason, it's quite common to see closed shutters everywhere on hot summer days in France. You can bet the windows and French doors are open behind them to let in cool breezes!
I'm working on covering an entire wall with shutters. It's been quite the project!!! <aHREF=http://www.oliveandlove.com/2010/05/decorating-with-shutters.html

I love shutters, I used to live in a listed Georgian home in Bath and we had window shutters there and they were great for light and look.
I have this great site in London they do an amazing range of different types of shutters in amazing colours.

Wondered what wood I should choose?
This is going to be slightly strange but as you can tell by my link I work for a shutter company. Nothing to do with my boss I promise. I love Shutters.
Almost every day I walk into a house and see the before and after and I am never unhappy with the look. I just love them..he he
if you are looking for shutters and you live in the UK ask for me 'Steve' and I will try and sort out a discount for you.
