Any way you stack them, vintage suitcases are a cool way to add personality to a home. You can pile them high in an empty corner, create an easy bedside table, even fill out that weird space between your armoire and ceiling.
Start scouring flea markets and pick up a set of mismatched luggage. Get creative and let us know how it goes!

Shaw's Original Fir...
AT-
I love the look of the 30's and 40's -- it harkens back to a time of 'romance' and travel and an uncivilized world...think the Flying Tigers, safaris to Africa (unfortunately when they were shooting for sport), Begin the Beguine, A Slow Boat to China, etc.
I have been decorating with old suitcases for 15 years -- used to be able to get them for cheap at flea market/second hand store.
I love the look and feel of them. Good for storage, as well.
Maps and old globes, too, give the same ambiance -- love it all.
Not sure why exactly, but I'm not a fan of this look. I think it's because it tends to look a bit cluttered.
I wonder if there's any houses decorated with suitcases not of the 1920s-40s trunk style??
I don't think the design world is ready for an "Up In the Air"-style roller suitcase, but what about the big hard-sided ones from the 1970s? Once America had houses big enough to store them, suitcases didn't need to be pretty anymore.
These suitcases are all square-ish. What about round suitcases and round hat boxes? I have some round 1950's or 1960's ones stacked together in non-neutral colors.
love round hat boxes.. sigh*
