We've praised the classic rotary phone as a technology we sort of miss for its charming mechanical qualities and classic design. Some designers share this affinity and reimagine the design for modern use, but the original remains our favourite. The phones retain a certain cachet for vintage decor lovers, so it's no surprise Ally over at Apartment San Francisco saw these bygone era communication devices as inspiration as decorative items, even for lighting!

I have a weakness for rotary phones, if I see a good one at a vintage shop, I get it despite not having a place to put them. European ones are the best, as they come in more shapes and colors than the commonly found black/beige trapezoidal ones here. I've actually got one in regular use. I hooked up a GE bluetooth gateway ($15) to a black rotary I keep on my coffee table, and I can answer calls to my iPhone through it.
creativeintheory, what you did with that black rotary phone is so cool, I would love that.
I don't like all of the phones on the wall in the photo, but I really love rotary phones.
