Dell Design Studio: Customize Your Dell Laptop

Customization is the name of the game these days, whether it be your laser engraved iPod or your Nike iD kicks. Dell has thrown their hat into the ring with the launch of their Dell Design Studio, which offers 58 options for personalizing your laptop's outer casing with "more than 100 exclusive and original works of art" from a selection of featured artists including Bruce Mau, Jason Bacon, Tristan Eaton, Joseph Amedokpo, Siobhan Gunning, Mike Ming, Brittany Waldner, Guillaume Wolf and Derek Welch. A few examples below the jump...

To be honest, although we like the idea and direction Dell is taking with the Design Studio line, the choices in graphics leaves a lot to be desired. They should take a long look at the offerings over at Gelaskin, a skins manufacturer we recently highlighted in our Best Free iPhone Wallpapers roundup. The current Dell options seem to be stuck in that realm of "not really cool to justify the price" and we actually prefer having a removable skin (the Dell Design Studio graphics are permanent). Hopefully we'll see the Dell Design Studio evolve with more options and a greater selection of artists and designers in the future.

Each design costs $75, with $20 being donated to Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa when you choose a (Product)Red design. The customization option is available for the Dell Studio 15 or 17 laptops at this time.
