I vividly remember as a five year old watching my grandmother take out her dentures to clean them in a glass of water and Efferdent. She'd always then try to scare me with her gummy mouth (and it always worked!). Now I can put my denture cleaner nightmares aside thanks to its new association with clean toilet bowls and unclogged drains!
CasaSugar recently featured 5 Household Uses for Denture Cleaner and here are a couple of ideas that I definitely plan to attempt at home:
• Clean the toilet. Drop two or three tablets into the bowl, let them sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then give it a scrub.
• Clean tea kettles, coffee carafes, and thermoses. Get rid of the stains and mineral deposits on metal-lined carafes by filling them with water, dropping in two tablets, and leaving it overnight. Then clean thoroughly with soap and water.
But there are definitely more than 5 ways to use this inexpensive cleaner (try $8 for a pack of 120 tablets) around the house. Other ideas include using it to help wash hard to clean bottles or to help make your diamonds look super sparkly.
Have you used denture cleaner to help with your cleaning duties before? If so, what's your favorite use for it?

Shaw's Original Fir...
The main ingredient is boric acid, which can be bought more cheaply.
Citric Acid Powder and Baking Powder do the same trick, I have both of them at home - denture cleaners will have to wait until I really need for my dentures ;-)
I use it to remove tea and coffee stains from my mugs and it works fantastically. Plus is non-toxic and smells nice (but I like mint).
Not too far off from it's original intent... I use them to clean both my retainers and my roller derby mouthguards.
Polident works better than Efferdent... Polident doesn't leave behind a film like Efferdent does.
Oh wow, Zoee. I bought this fantastic vintage ceramic pitcher for super cheap because it was discolored. I should give the denture cleaner a try.
I used it before for a toilet that had major rust stains from rusty water. Worked like a charm. But now I have a huge box of leftover denture tablets. Need to befriend some denture wearers..
Stinky shoes, filled with warm water in a sink, benefit greatly from a tablet or two each. Of course, this only works on washable shoes.
I use denture tablets in my Vibram FiveFingers. Vodka, washing detergent, nothing else worked.
No more funky feet!
My mom was staying here over the holidays, used one of my old stained mugs for her dentures and - it's so CLEAN! I couldn't figure it out but that must be what happened.... Thanks for solving the mystery.
I have tons of the tabs around becasue I use them for my night guard (for grinding teeth). I am going to try it on my coffee mugs. I find they get a film after a while and it's impossible to get rid of even after soaking in boiling water.
After I put my denture in the toilet with the tablet do I flush the commode???
