One of our secret places to buy unique gifts for ourselves and our friends is a store called Derby Farm, in Arlington. Derby Farm sells a wonderfully eclectic mix of French Country, garden, and local homewares that you won’t find elsewhere in Boston. From bistro garden furniture inspired by Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris to cement stone planters and handmade items from local artists, we love stopping in to see what's new, and we almost always leave with fresh flowers...

Named after a real farm in New Hampshire, Derby Farm is full of affordable home and garden items with lush colors and a casual French Garden style. The owner, Barbara, is a landscape designer who brings in uncommon pieces that are useful as well as beautifully made. Many of the items she sells come from smaller producers or the studios of local artists. We particularly love their rough cement garden planters (shown in the first photo), classic bistro furniture, rustic garden pots from Camp Fiori and rugs from Bungalow Living.

One of our favorite things about Derby Farm is the incredibly fresh flowers they sell. Its also a great place to pick up a spontaneous bouquet for a gift when you're invited for dinner or to brighten your own home.
