At a thrift store recently, we found a stack of old shelter magazines. Flipping through was fun - we never hang on to our own long enough for them to be "dated." Going as far back as 1990, an issue of HG (House & Garden) opened with a heavily made up Isabella Rossellini for Lancome, and big shoulder-padded Cindy Crawford in an Anne Klein ad. While those things have changed a lot in the last 17 years, some of the interiors we saw actually haven't changed all that much...

We don't think great interiors should shout what era they belong to. Rather, we look for them to have an everlasting power that could make them feel modern in various decades. We found great rooms in each of three issues from different publications in 1990 (H&G), 1997 (Metropolitan Home), and 2007 (Elle Decor). And if we had to guess, we might never know which is from which year. You?
