Was this in response to that other recent post where everyone was like "who spends this much money on a gift?!"?
Glad to see that we are now at (barely) under $100.
You can find some amazing things in museum gift shops, like the MCA in Chicago or MOMA (their online store is fab too). Lots of cool design-forward stuff for under $100 - under $50 too. Plus, a day at the museum instead of the mall? WINNING!
4 Williams-Sonoma nesting bowls for $40
It's not six bowls, and it's not the same design, but they won't set you back $95, either. I don't understand what is so special about those bowls that they cost $95.
One difference in the bowls featured here are that they are made in the USA (at least that's the impression I got from the web page) vs the WS bowls which are made in China. I prefer to buy from companies that manufacture here in the US when possible.
Sorry for the mistakes in my previous message, haha I'm typing in an awkward location.
You can buy the same Klein canvas tool bag for around $50 through Home Depot.
thanks @hesslou, cuz i gotta have it!
JamieO2 - Be careful about the impression you get from a fancy website. Moss is just the website that sells the bowls. The bowls are made by Zak Design. The Zak Design site says this:
"The reason that Zak Designs can consistently deliver high quality products at competitive prices is because of the dedication and hard work of our sister company, Sara Rose International (SRI). Founded in 1992 and headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, SRI is the exclusive buying and sourcing agent for Zak. SRI continually finds and secures the best raw materials, manages and maintains the factories that produce our products, and builds relationships in the orient that are crucial for us to produce superior products and ship them around the world. SRI maintains stringent quality control and social compliance, and, with Zak, has invested in several joint-venture factories."
and this:
"Located in Shanghai, Zak China was established late in 2005 and will help us better serve the needs of consumers in China and throughout Asia. Initially focusing on the licensed mealtime business, Zak China also plans to extend its product offering to cover our adult line, such as the kitchen prep and various selection of dinnerware with high quality designs."
So given that the China division focuses on kitchen prep, that $95 set of bowls probably came from China after all.
Like I said I just got the impression ... Lol I'm not in the market for plastic bowls anyway
Even so, $95 for bowls is ridiculous and it doesn't really matter whether they were made in the US...$95 for bowls is still ridiculous.
Zak Designs bowls are imported. The 5 piece set goes for around $40.00 from Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond. I'm not sure why the 6th bowl would be worth $45.
I received those controversial bowls as a gift several years ago. They're very nice, I use them a lot, but I would never have thought they'd cost that much. Nor would I have wanted my aunt-in-law to pay that much for them!
