Some very enviable DIY chops on display. Splatgirl took on a big project and the results look totally pro. The style? To use her term, Modustrial. The inspiration? Some cool red casters that shes had for ages...
The other components?
- Triple thickness of 3/4 inch plywood, glued and screwed together, then sanded and sealed.
- Steel legs designed by Spatgirl and produced by BW Welding.
The goal? A place to seat lots of folks for dinner (and yes, it she got it done in time for Thanksgiving!).
Read all about it (and the matching bench made from the scraps) here and here at the always inspirational Modern in MN.

I love it! I am somewhat obsessed with casters, and tried to fit some on my existing table, but it made the table too high....maybe I should cut those legs off and find some RED casters!
ok splatgirl... between this and the fab bathroom, when are you going to start doing this stuff professionally??
I've never known anyone to be "obsessed with casters". Hilarious!
Oh, we're out there, I have these secret dreams of putting all of my furniture on casters somehow. ;)
aww, a little puff-ball kitty.
Eh, I don't like those legs at all. Too chunky. Looks all out of scale. I like the tabletop, though.
Half of what I own is on casters. For those of you looking for casters - McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) sells every color available (though not always in every size). I have some small red ones under my flatfiles right now. Casters are never cheap, but at least you can pick out exactly the ones you want.
ohh thanks for the link ATchi!
I haven't ever bought here, but this place looks like caster addict central:

The red ones I used on the table came from a restaurant supply, but I've also found myself oogling Harbor Freight's selection on many occasions. I'm crazy to do something with the big, inflatable knobby rubber tire kind.
Splatgirl, put them on a big square coffee table.
