Greg Bergere, the founder of SF-based of Go Build Studio, says he inherited "an appreciation for history, common sense, and resourcefulness" from his large New England family. That solid grounding is evident in his design aesthetic (which is function-oriented) and the company that has grown from it, whose mission is to bring "original and sensible design solutions to the world." Bergere put his money where his mouth is, too, with a line of furniture made entirely by craftspeople in the Bay Area, a rarity in the furniture world. "Sensible" takes the form of built-in utility, as in the Bookleaf Coffee Table's book nooks. But in spite of all the talk of community and common sense, Bergere's furniture is actually very design-y, notable for clean, elemental shapes and beautiful craftmanship. There's no embellishment, just gorgeous cuts of Zebrawood, Birch and Walnut detailed with frosted acrylic panels, bronzed pulls, or legs cut into a table's side panels. Some pieces we particularly like:
The Retreat Table
The Rouge Buffet
The Zebra Credenza
The Arlo Bed's visual lightness seems like a bit of a departure. To order contact Go Build through info (at) gobuildstudio (dot) com, or 415.412.6457 for a quote and estimate of a time for delivery.
