A man of passion and talent, architect Rem Koolhaas of The Netherlands' Office for Metropolitan Architecture has designed a number of residences that are decidedly masculine with strong angles and cool, no-nonsense materials:
In the gallery above, you'll see a portrait of the man himself and a handful of examples from his residential portfolio. The spaces he creates are dramatic while using simple or common surfaces in new ways. Big ideas have been brought to fruition through tectonics and raw material. Most of these are built works; a few are from the drawing board:
• 1 Rem Koolhaas
• 2 Maison à Bordeaux
• 3 Villa Dall'Ava
• 4 Dutch House
• 5 Villa Dall'Ava
• 6 Maison à Bordeaux
• 7 Anish Kapoor House
• 8 & 9 These are the only non-residences we're featuring here: It's the catwalk and backdrop design for the Prada Men Fall/Winter 2009 and Prada Men Spring/Summer 2010 fashion shows
• 10 competition entry for Irish Prime Minister's residence
