I have a love affair with boldly patterned chairs. More playful than a pillow, not as dominating as a whole sofa, they're the perfect spark for my creative fire. The latest object of my affection is this chic, Southwest-inspired beauty. If money was no object, here's how I'd design a room around this pretty piece.
The Dale chair features a classic shape with a touch of flirty fun. I'd echo the pattern in a complimentary kilim rug and allude to the nailhead detail with metal accents. I'd keep it urban with a modern take on the chesterfield sofa, add a dose of rustic wood, and soften it with a few ruffles and curves.

I can't believe the coffee table and chair each cost more than the sofa (that's the best looking piece in the room!). I have always really disliked southwestern style. The print on the chair doesn't bother me too much, but the rug... no.
Horchow is very overpriced for the quality they sell. i regret buying stuff from there when i didn't know any better.
I designed my daughter's nursery around a glider/recliner upholstered in this, which is actually more loud than it looks:

I probably wouldn't do that again. Easy to change out linens, wall color, art/accessories. Impossible to change out an expensive piece of upholstered furniture that is hard to match.
This is a beautiful selection.
I love the gray couch and the natural woods.I'm also loving the brass lamp! All the brass that is emerging lately is making my 70s kid heart sing.
And really, I do 'like' the chair, but it is very of-the-moment. It will scream 2012 for the remainder of the time you have it.

I've come around to many decorating styles...except the Southwest look. Just don't dig it man.
I am saving up for that West Elm couch though. In another material.
This is a pretty combination athough the Southwestern style scares me.
The chair or the rug, but not both together. If the scale of the pattern on the chair was smaller, or the rug larger I'd say okay. Otherwise, it looks awesome.
Do any of you live in the Southwest? Do you have any knowledge of the cultural meanings of any of the patterns? I mean, you don't have to like it, but it didn't originate as a style of decoration. Every shape and symbol means something.
