Name: Desmond (4)
Location: Ottawa, Canada
Desmond's room is very small - under 80 square feet with odd nooks, a closet that sticks out, and a large window. It was a perfect nursery, but when we needed to adjust the design for a twin size bed we were stumped for a while.
We decided to make the nook his feature wall by pasting vintage maps onto it. We placed a low bed against the feature wall and added a wall mount lamp to save space. Because the bed was sticking into the room I got one without a foot board.
We combined old and new items and wall-mounted as many things as possible to save space. The wall behind the door was transformed into a full-height chalkboard wall. I also painted the ceiling and the walls the same pale blue colour to make the room feel bigger.
We kept a bit of a travel theme and added some rustic items and pops of red.

So adorable!!
SO CUTE!!!
Love!! Great idea with the vintage maps.
I LOVE this! Do you mind sharing where you got the tree branch hook, bedside lamp, and those lovely wall shelves? Great job!
Love this! Where did you get the bed blanket? Cheers from a fellow Canuck!
Thank you.The tree branch hook I got at a local Ottawa store called Zone, but I believe I've seen similar at Anthro. The wall shelves are EKBY BJÄRNUM brackets from IKEA with white shelves cut to size.
The blanket is a vintage Swiss Army blanket which was purchased at a Army Surplus store in Switzerland. You can also buy them on ebay or at Sundance (http://www.sundancecatalog.com) and there are reproductions available.
I just realized that my profile still referenced my old blog. I changed that now - looks confusing.
I'm in Ottawa. Goignto Zone this week for sure! Gorgeous little room.
hi again, I just saw that AP featured the twig hooks today - about 3 posts down. Also, the lamp is from IKEA.
Love it! Looks a whole lot like what I am doing in our nursery - right down to the blue on the walls and pops of red. Where did you find the maps? I plan to paper the inside of a bookcase with them but am having trouble finding them. Thanks and great job!
Very nice room ! I love everything especially the vintage maps and the deer pillow.
I got two vintage atlases (60s) at a Goodwill store for $1 each.
What a fun room! I'm also quite inspired by the behind the door chalkboard, which makes great use of often hard to use space.
such a cute kid's room. great job.
LOVE this, it's beautiful and unique and charming. What paint color did you use? I've tried many shades of light blue and haven't found the right one yet, but this one is gorgeous. Please share!
Everything about this room is spot on! Way to go mom : )
The paint colour is Benjamin Moore, Cumulus Cotton.
