The renovation of an Edwardian semi-detached house in Golders Green, London by AOC Architects is named after the homes new focal point — a marvelous poured-concrete hearth with a subtle herringbone pattern.
AOC has an extensive description of their redesign of the surburban semi-detached home on Dezeen.

I really like the fireplace and stairs - but I think the railing looks tiny and fragile in contrast to the poured concrete. I'd want the railing to be a little more substantial and clean-lined.
Its the bunny and the chocolate cake that really do it for me, though!
This is so fantastic, and I hope those are real bunnies hopping all over the place.
Why don't we see herringbone floors in American homes very much. I love them but really only see them in European interiors.
I love herringbone floors too! Love them! I asked about whether you could still have them installed at a flooring place here (Ontario), and the guy said yes, but not many people do it any more and so it would be incredibly costly. Too bad. They're so beautiful. And they do seems so much more common in European interiors.
I like the herringbone patterning on the hearth surround, but I don't love how the concrete expands past the fireplace and includes the stairs. It feels heavy. And my personally feeling is that I'd tire of it.
Oops. I meant "my personal feeling."
I love herringbone, but found the cost too high for floors and my DIY skills woefully lacking to even attempt it myself, I put in a temporary kitchen backsplash but am experimenting with a tiled herringbone using subway tile.
Funny house, a little like it was added on over time, it reminds me of the Winchester Mystery House in Cupertino (San Jose?) California.
I agree that the banister railings don't work but the chocolate cake and bunny do. Ha!
i love herringbone (floors) but this is too much of a good thing.
The staircases remind me of that one scene in The Labyrinth with the Escher-like staircase room.
that's actually a chevron pattern, not herringbone.
Love it. A classic pattern. Very chic.
i do love the window into a room, that is a great and casual idea!
