- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love the high vaulted ceilings with a skylight above the bed; even though my place is very tiny and oddly shaped, the bright high walls give the illusion of more space. A walk-in closet bigger than the bathroom is also a huge plus!
Most of my furniture was bought from vintage or consignment stores, so I'm really proud of my mid-century-styled pieces purchased with craigslist-prices. On the topic of furniture, I also have a murphy bed -- I painted the backdrop and keep it unfolded permanently, which creates a little "headboard nook" type feeling.
My art is also very unique, as half was made by myself, and inspired by my growing up in Chicago. I also have albums framed (some of my prized possessions!) which cover a lot of white space on one of my walls.
And last but not least I can't leave out my terrarium from Twig; it makes the perfect centerpiece on my table!
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Being a rental, the white walls and the common-beige carpet are something that I wouldn't normally have in a home of my own. I hung lots of art and used tiny area rugs to try to combat this.
Even though this studio is technically "one room," there are 3 distinct spaces (living, bed and dining areas.) The area rugs and segregated decor colors help visually achieve this.

like the couch/loveseat interesting styles :)
Its a great layout for a small space! Where did you get your couch?
Where is the painting in the dining area from? Love it.
Would have loved to see the kitchen...but nice job!
Thanks guys! The couch was a craigslist find, and the canvas flower print on the dining area wall was from CB2 (their 2011 collection.)
i love it! simple, cozy and relax!
Nice space, I like the space at the head of the bed. I adore Murphy beds!! I think you might have larger artwork, right now the many grouped small pieces are too... small. Something bold and meaningful? Oh, and I like that tear-dropped wood thiny.
This apartment is an example of why I love the Small, Cool contest. I am in no way a minimalist or even fond of MCM style, but I like this apartment. The neat yellow chair in the living area, the birds painted over the bed, the positive/negative clocks over the bed--all details I love. The attention to detail throughout is evident, but the place still looks livable and comfortable. It looks like a home.
Entries like this challenge me. I have so much more space that this, in my 850 sq. ft. apartment, but they don't display the same sense of style as this teeny-tiny apartment does.
Love the white tripod table! It's such a pain to find a good, small table for a small place.
Nice....
High ceilings and a nook for the bed! Ideal provisions for a studio apt.! Wish to have seen the kitchen too. Great tastes (MCM and Zeppelin!).
Where did your dining table come from?
Dining table was the tulip table from West Elm - picked up as a discounted floor sample a few months ago.
Can`t find the skylight, where is it?
It`s the coolest murphy bed I`ve ever seen, very chic.
I WANT YOUR CHAIRS! They are fabulous.
The skylight is above the bed - it was too high to fit in the pic! And thanks, the chairs are also West Elm.
I love the black and white posters by your bed. Where did you get them? Or did you make them yourself? I was thinking of going with some ink blot art and may still but I really like those and would like to get my hands on some
absolutely need more photos especially those of the kitchen & bathroom... how can that be possible.. :) ?? love it nice & clean... LOVE the furniture.... personally i would mix & match them but they r so scrumptious! :)
Just so stylish, specially the bedroom. Amazing.
i loved the contrast between the painting color and the wall art in the dining area. interesting taste...
As a HUGE West Elm fan, I LOVE every single West Elm thing you have. I almost bought that cool Crosby Rancheroo radio from WE a few months ago and didn't. Kicking myself now because it looks so rad. You've got a really nice place here.
By the way, Sneakybuffalo, those black and white prints in the bedroom are from CB2. Why do I know this? Because I also have a CB2 addiction in addition to my WE addiction.
Really? Thanks
I have scoured their site and have not found anything like those though :(
Appears they don't sell them anymore. They did over the winter... :(
I found this link:

But the link to the actual art on the CB2 website is dead. What a bummer. They were so cool.

Yeah, product no longer available. :(
I am currently moving into a tiny space with my bf and we were looking into the murphy bed idea....did you build yours yourself?
