One of the things I love about DIY is that when someone compliments you on the piece you can smile and say, “I did that!” In the case of this DIY starburst mirror, I’m sure Diane hears compliments all the time! And, thanks to her tutorial, so can you!

Diane wrote about her DIY starburst mirror on her blog, Momtastic, and I am in love! The fact the she was able to take ordinary wood shims (18 packs of them, to be precise) and turn them into this beautiful piece of art is absolutely inspiring!
Diane includes a full how-to on her blog so I'll just give you the basics here. It's basically a matter of gluing the shims together to create the starburst, then attaching them all to a craft ring. A little spray paint followed by some finishing touches and you have a gorgeous new mirror!

I could also see this project working as a wall clock. Simply purchase the face and workings of a clock (or upcycle a used one) and insert it in place of the mirror.
To make your own mirror, follow the easy tutorial on Diana's blog: Momtastic: How To Make a Starburst Mirror.

Wow, shims are one of my favorite things ever anyway, but this brings them to a whole new level. Not just behind-the-scenes useful but ready for some visibility!
