Name: Diane
Location: Rollinsville, Colorado
Our little weekend cabin in the Colorado Rockies is an hour from our home in Denver, and at 825 square feet and only one bedroom, it was a challenge to figure out how it would work for our family of four, including our 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son.
The mud room houses a washer/dryer, undercounter refrigerator, and new bench area with black slate floor for removing dirty snow boots. The galley kitchen has plenty of counter space for baking cookies together since it does not have a full-size refrigerator taking up precious space. The opposite side has the perfect size pantry to keep staples on hand.
Where there was once a full wall of four low bookcases is now two bookcases and beyond a small two person dining table, perfect for morning coffee overlooking the Continental Divide. A four person game table in the living room can be used as overflow dining. The bedroom with vaulted ceiling has built-in bunk beds for the children and also serves as TV room.
My husband and I sleep on a queen sofabed in the living room; this way, we get to enjoy the wood-burning fireplace on cold winter nights. Painted pine floors were stripped and white-washed, and a pitiful 19 gallon water heater was replaced with an electric tankless unit for taking shower after shower. Finally, an 8'x16' storage shed has been converted into an artist's studio/retreat.
Thanks, Diane!

Shaw's Original Fir...
This is just a beautiful, Diane! Fantastic use of space.
I hate when people's weekend getaway is nicer than my actual real life apartment. None-the-less, this is a beautiful space! I love the clean lines and brightness.
great place. Does the cat go back and forth with you? our cat goes to our weekend house only when we'll be there more that 3 nights..
I love that pantry cabinet! Where did you get it?
Would anyone judge me for saying I want that mudroom to be my kitchen?
Beautiful :)
That's some mud room!
absolutely adorable cabin! How nice is it to have your own little slice of heaven!
I LOVE the laundry room! So cute!
First of all, this is beautiful. What a beautifully efficient use of space.
Second of all, OH MY GOODNESS, my father's family has a cabin in Gilpin county, just outside of Rollinsville! My great grandfather built it many years ago. I have always wondered what some of the other cabins were like - who knew I would find out on Apartment Therapy!
Yeah, Rollinsville. Would love to escape Denver for the weekend! Fabulous job.
I would love to see an full house tour on this place , but if you could just share some details about the floor plan? does the main room become the bedroom for the couple at night? The trend toward smaller family homes is undeniable and should be encouraged - this is just the kind of place we need to know more about!
I'd love to see a house tour/floor plan, too!
Lovely
Weekend cabin??? Heck, I could, and would, easily LIVE here. Beautiful!
I would be happy with a one-room shack that is only an hour from Denver...but I would also be happy with this :)
The children's bunk beds built into a shared space revive a 40's floorplan idea without looking dated. This is kind of my dream for a full time house. just sayin' - love it =)
One of my all-time favourite posts, stunning use of wood and a perfect cabin vibe
Weekend cabin? Psh. I would so totally live there. I know it isn't traditional for a house call, but I wish I could see a floor plan.
Here is a Floor Plan of the cabin:

What paint brand, color and trim did you use in the living space? Its beautiful!
Benjamin Moore 'White Dove' for the trim. See the actual article on the cabin for all the paints used.
