i keep meaning to...

I sent mine out a week ago, but I haven't gotten any yet. It's a bit demoralizing. :(

I usually send them out shortly after Thanksgiving but this year I am a little behind schedule.

We're way behind schedule! We're both graphic designers and just can't decide on what to make to send. We should just buy some next year.

I send out cards every few years. This is (hopefully) going to be one of them.

I used to send out tons of cards to friends and family every year and rarely got more than a handful back, and often I got those well into the next year. After about decade of that, I pared down the number of people I sent to, but still got back almost nothing. Eventually, I gave up.

Part of the joy of Christmas cards is hanging them up before and during the holiday season. If people can't be bothered to send me a card once a year to give that small pleasure, then I can't be bothered either. Clearly, they don't enjoy my cards enough to do me the courtesy of reciprocating even once every several years.

Sending cards is such a funny thing, but I promise you I get more than I send out, and neither is very many.

I think that the whole tit-for-tat thing is a little tricky and troublesome, but I do like to send them out whenever I find a kind of card that I find inspiring in some way. And by that, I soooo don't mean "inspirational".

It really is literally like one out of every five years that I send something out.

I might send something out for New Years. After the fact, or something like that.

Actually I just sent mine out today. I haven't sent out cards for a couple of years now and decided to send some out this year.

I send out new years cards -- not religious and gives you more time.

i sent them out 2 weeks ago. it's my first year planning and getting them out on time, so it was a very unexpected surprise on the end of the recipients.

I am almost done sending them out...and I never get back as many as I send, but I have a short list of about 20 people that have made a big difference in my life and I figure the least I can do is show them that I still appreciate what they have done for me and think of them often. It is the giving and not the receiving that makes me happy. :)

I sent a handful yesterday and then wrote about a dozen more last night. I still have about a dozen and a half to go @.@ I hope they arrive on time!

I do! It takes forever, but receiving personalized cards always brightens my day.

I've cut back on the number/quality of card I usually send this year...I'm probably saving myself about $50 by doing so, and this year every little bit counts! I already sent out to a few friends who I've received cards from and to relatives.

I meant to send holiday cards this year, but procrastination caught me. oh well...

I think you really have to send cards "for your own joy", not for what you think you should get in return. Sure, we all have obligations and responsibilities, but IMO christmas cards shouldn't be one of them. I've always gotten joy from the "just-another-Christmas-task" - as a friend of mine calls it - thinking about the smile on THEIR face when they open it. Even an Email Card is an easy way to just say "hey, I'm thinking of you, I appreciate you".

This year, in my snail-mail cards, I had a little extra fun and included some "raindeer poop" (red/green m&m's) and a little silly poem. Just for the joy of it. ;-)

I went to art school, and had always planned on designing and printing my own. Never happened. Then, with kids on the scene, I had dreams of how we would make cards together. Between trips to Berlin, India, Senegal, dance class, groceries and bedtime, there just doesn't seem to be enough time.

Every year I get a second wind of guilt, and try to get my husband interested in putting together P.F. cards, which are popular here in Europe -- P.F., or Pro Fortuna, 2009.

We don't get cards anymore -- not many of our friends send them any more.

I haven't sent cards in years. It just seems like a waste of paper and effort to me. None of my friends send cards anymore either.

I enjoy writing and sending the cards. I send about 50-60 each year, and sit down to write about 5 each night between Thanksgiving and Christmas. That way, it's a pleasant 30 minute project by the tree, sipping egg nog lattes, not a chore. I wish I got more in return, but that is less important than the pleasure I get from doing it.

I make my own cards almost every year and get a real kick out it. People like getting them too. I don't receive that many anymore--seems like it is going out of fashion, sending cards. Making cards is my "thing" though so I don't mind!

I used to send lots, but in recent years I get better quality (usually Museum of Modern Art popup cards, when I can find them) and send only to family and a very short list of friends. This year, since we are still unpacking from moving, I just haven't had time -- but I'm thinking a holiday letter later on with pictures of the new house will satisfy the curiosity of my card recipients and update everyone, so that's the tentative plan. I normally hate getting or sending those letters, but the situation is different this year, and most of the people I send to are out of state and won't see the actual house for ages, if ever.

I'm a moron ... I design and sell Christmas cards and even I never got around to sending my OWN cards out. I ran out of stock of my favorite ones a few weeks ago and never got around to ordering more to use for myself. I'm so lame. I also never had a chance to make my large assortment of cookies for everyone either!

this will be my third year in a row silkscreening my own christmas cards. I have such a large group of family and friends, it's impossible to get everyone a gift. This gives me an easy way to share the holiday spirit and reconnect. and since they're handmade by me, they carry a little more impact.

I have a stack of 25 or so sitting in my waiting for stamps. Though I know I will not receive as many as I send out, which is disappointing, but I still enjoy letting friends/family know I am thinking about them.

I also "scored" this year and got 2 boxes of recyled paper holiday cards at a thrift store for ONE DOLLAR a box! And they are nice stock too. So that motivated me to send cards out too =)

I just finished mine. And they're all hand made from leftover 'bits and bobs' I had around the house. But *only* because I'm unemployed and have lots of time on my hands--normally, I don't send out any, I just don't have the time! With funds so tight these cards may very well be my gifts as well. Hopefully next year I'll be working again, and will still be able to send out regular cards. Hmm...etsy, here I come?

I sent them every year. I like the idea of using snail mail - everything shouldn't be emailed.

I think more than ever, sending out cards this year seems important to me. Many friends and family have had a rough year for one reason or another and getting a card in the mail is always a day brightener!

I'd love to, but I haven't found any cards pretty enough... nor am I inspired or skilled enough (right now) to make my own. I don't see any point in sending out ugly xmas cards, so nope.

My husband and I design our cards every year, this year we had them letterpressed. Since we had to print a minimum amount of cards, my husband, a publisher, is selling the remaining cards and envelopes online at his website.
