Diggers Go by Steve Light

Children's Book Review

Chumma chumma! Kerack ack ack akc! Moooooosh. While it may sound like this allergy season has gotten the best of me, in actuality these strange noises elicit smiles and laughter in my house. They are just a few of the sound effects parents and kids will give a try when they read Diggers Go by Steve Light.

It is a no-brainer that kids will love this book. The bright colors, over-sized drawings and raucous 'words' used to describe each construction vehicle at work hit all of the right notes. The unexpected pleasure I found was listening to my wife read it and comparing her version of the wrecking ball and steamroller to my own. Our daughter now has her own take on the sounds, a sort of hybrid of how it is read to her mixed with a healthy dash of manic toddler energy.

Diggers Go is a quick read, but it is rarely read just once, and never read the same way twice.
