In the world of design when we think of bark it inevitably conjures up images of birch trees—the white and ubiquitous papery stuff inspiring wall papers, cast vases, and DIY projects in abundance. That is why Nendo's take on the natural element is so refreshing.
The inspiration is still there, but the reference is loose. In their Kub stool series Nendo reinterprets the natural, considering tree stumps, their surface patterns and form, through a striking digital approach. This juxtaposition of elements results in a playful and hi-tech version of typical "trunks", a nod to nature with out adhering to strict convention, or exact replication. The look may not have the same wide appeal as the original source, but there is a definite effectiveness to these modern, almost futuristic designs.
